We’re beyond excited to work with St. Thomas Library and Middlesex County Libraries to offer online programming through the winter months.
Individuals aged 55+ are considered one of the fastest growing population groups in Canada, During the pandemic, we facilitated research activities and pilot projects to increase online participation in life enrichment programming. Our pilot projects and instructors received high praise from both participants and community partners.
Starting January 5th, 2026 we’ll focus on livestream ZOOM session for older adults 55+ who live in smaller towns and rural areas in Southwestern Ontario. Our online programs support new creative skills in highly social online workshop sessions.
Our Creative Age Network strategic direction 2026 to 2030 is to raise awareness among older adults and service providers of the benefits of online programming. Older adults, especially those in rural areas, look forward to the online programming offered by our facilitators during the winter months for several important reasons:
- Increased Access to Creative and Social Learning Opportunities
Many rural areas lack local creative classes. Online programming gives older adults access to targeted programming and interactive workshops offered by skilled facilitators that would otherwise be unavailable due to geographic isolation. - Enhanced Social Connection and Mental Well-Being
Participating in virtual communities helps reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation—common issues for older adults in rural areas. Engaging in creative and social learning activities with others, even online, supports mental health and fosters a sense of belonging. - Flexible and Accessible Learning Environment
Online programs can be adapted to meet varying abilities, allowing older adults to learn at their own pace and from the comfort of home. This flexibility is especially valuable for those with mobility issues or limited transportation options.
