Artists’ training program enhances seniors’ quality of life in London Ontario

The London Ontario Arts Council – Artists in Residence (LAIR) Program

In Ontario, there are currently more than two million seniors, and this number is expected to double in the next 25 years. To prepare for this demographic shift, the London Arts Council applied for and received funding to train ten LAIR artists to work with older adults in London Ontario.

The program started on September 7th and 3 pilot projects have been completed. The training and pilot projects will ultimately enhance the quality of life for older adults through authentic art-making experiences with professional artist educators.

The projects are designed using principles of creative process and life-long learning.

Depending on the arts genre, the pilot projects are 90-minute sessions over 10 weeks or 2-hour sessions over 8 weeks.
