Creative Age Art Studio

In 2017, the Creative Age Art Studio was established in Thames Centre Ontario – just 20 minutes east of Hamilton Road and Highbury Ave., London Ontario. Professionally trained instructors and facilitators offer courses and workshops to develop skills and promote social engagement. The studio program coordinator is Penny Wearne.

The Creative Age Art Studio started as a very small project funded by New Horizons for Seniors Canada. Dorchester Seniors Centre members have a discounted price for programs and workshops but the studio is open to all. Since the humble beginnings, word of the studio programs has spread. Older adults from surrounding areas are discovering the studio. Our list of course offerings (beginners to advanced) is growing. Some of our instructors have completed special training or equivalent experience in working with older participants.

Drop-in days – we do use the studio to develop special creative aging programs for the frail elderly, low-income and isolated seniors who have barriers to full arts and cultural participation. However, the majority of our studio peers come to discover, learn and play. We use many online resources for small group discovery sessions including The Artists Network. Basically – we’re just curious. We play with new materials and ideas. Google and Youtube have become close friends.

Contact Karen Gress for more information about fall community arts programs in the studio. Test drive some creative aging programs and stay for a visit or lunch in the Village or hike along the nearby Mill Pond.
