Creative Age Art Studio Thames Centre

Managed by Karen Gress, Penny Wearne and local volunteers, the fully accessible gathering place is a dynamic studio/workshop space within the Flight Exec Community Centre in the Municipality of Thames Centre celebrating creativity, lifelong learning, community engagement and creative self-expression. We are a unique and inclusive community that empowers members of the seniors’ community and facilitates an environment filled with encouragement that results in a strengthened sense of belonging.

Special efforts are made to reach those at risk of social isolation through the much appreciated funding support from New Horizons for Seniors Canada Program and the Seniors’ Community Grant Program.

Although the programs primarily target local residents, they draw participants from the surrounding areas in Middlesex County and east London.

Volunteers also organize intergenerational activities in the same space. Art-making, creativity and art expression bring children, youth, adults and seniors together fostering arts education, creative self-expression and mentoring.

Some program expenses are funded by the Municipality of Thames Centre, provincial and federal grants and local service clubs. The Creative Age Art Studio workshops increase community involvement and engagement, and promote the spirit of community and volunteering.

With the administrative support of Karen Gress, the Seniors’ Centre Coordinator, a wide variety of creative arts and crafts programs are offered throughout the year and are advertised through the Dorchester Lions Seniors Centre Newsletter, local newspaper and social media.
